As far as I can tell, this movie has not been getting a lot of attention. I can’t remember when I first learned of it, but I think it was when I spotted some stills quite some times ago, on Twitter. Aside from a few other people sharing the trailer and stating similar surprise at its low-visibility, Netflix’s upcoming movie The Old Guard seems to be skimming along with minimal attention. This is quite surprising.
A covert team of immortal mercenaries are suddenly exposed and must now fight to keep their identity a secret just as an unexpected new member is discovered.
The movie is an adaptation of Greg Rucka‘s excellent comic of the same name. Published by Image Comics, the first volume is out now — and I highly recommend it. Here’s the fuller synopsis:
Old soldiers never die… and some of them don t even fade away. Cursed with immortality, Andromache of Scythia and her comrades-in-arms ply their trade for those who can find and afford their services. But in the 21st century, being immortal is a difficult secret to keep, and when you live long enough, you learn that there are many fates far worse than death.
The Old Guard arrives on Netflix on July 10th.
