Announced during the TV upfronts last week, ABC’s Stumptown is based on the graphic novels series of the same name. The series stars Cobie Smulders (How I Met Your Mother, Marvel’s cinematic universe). There are a couple of other crime/cop shows that were announced, but this is definitely one of the more interesting, to me. Looking forward to watching it. Here’s the network’s synopsis:
Based on the “Stumptown” graphic novel series, follows Dex Parios (Cobie Smulders) as a strong, assertive, and sharp-witted army veteran with a complicated love life, gambling debt, and a brother to take care of in Portland, Oregon. Her military intelligence skills make her a great P.I., but her unapologetic style puts her in the firing line of hardcore criminals and not quite in alliance with the police.
The Stumptown comic series, published by Oni Press, was created and written by Greg Rucka, who has written some of my favourite comics and series — including a 2011-12 run on The Punisher (Marvel), Black Magick and Lazarus (Image). Series artwork is by Matthew Southworth (Vols. 1-2), Lee Loughridge (Vol. 1 only), Rico Renzi (Vols. 1-2), Justin Greenwood (Vols. 3-4), Ryan Hill (Vols. 3-4).
Dex Parios is the proprietor of Stumptown Investigations, and a fairly talented P.I. Unfortunately, sh’s less adept at throwing dice than solving cases. Her recent streak has left her beyond broke — she’s in to the Confederated Tribes of the Wind Coast for 18 large. But maybe Dex’s luck is about to change. Sue-Lynne, head of the Wind Coast’s casino operation, will clear Dex’s debt if she can locate Sue-Lynne’s missing granddaughter. But is this job Dex’s way out of the hole or a shove down one much much deeper?
